Junior Tritons Races
We encourage our members to take part in races. There are loads of races for children in London and the south-east.
Children race in age categories as follows, depending on age on 31 December:
Tristart (will be 8 years old on 31 December 2017)
Tristar 1 (9/10)
Tristar 2 (11/12)
Tristar 3 (13/14)
Triathlon England London region organises a series of races for juniors with trophies presented to the series winners at the end of season awards evening. In 2016 Noemie and Theo won their respective age groups and Louis W, Brett and Anna came 3rd.
Full details of the 2017 Junior Series and past years' results are here. Please note that many of the races sell out very quickly (literally in minutes ...) so please make sure you know when each race opens for entries to avoid disappointment (these are posted on the Forum).
All of the triathlons/aquathlons have pool swims with the exception of The Bridge which has an open water swim (wetsuit required). Bike legs are always on closed traffic-free circuits.
All of these races have being going for a number of years and are well organised, mostly by local clubs. They are also very well attended – last year Trinity had over 400 juniors racing!
Performance in these races will determine the overall London Region Series champions in each age group and the top 3 male and female athletes in Tristar 2 and 3 categories will be selected to represent London in the British Triathlon Inter-Regional Championships in August. Brett, Louis W, Anna and Sophia were part of the London IRC team in 2016.
Top 6 boys and girls in Tristar 2 & 3 are invited to join the London Region Junior Training Squad which provides additional coaching at various venues around London once a month. In 2017 11 members of the Club have been invited to join LRTS.
There are a number of other races within an hour or so of SE10 that you can find by search on the British Triathlon website although not all races are registered there, including the very popular races at Eton Dorney and Hever Castle.
Please do ask if you have any questions – I have raced or spectated at most of these venues and know many of the organisers so have plenty of knowledge to share.
